Inkululeko project

Inkululeko

Empowering youth in South Africa through supplemental education and opportunity.

Task

To provide South African township youth with the skills, support and guidance necessary to apply, attend and succeed in university; to challenge the bigotry of low expectations for township youth; and to provide sustainable, positive change – student-by-student, generation-by-generation.

Generally information

Initial Research Project:

Inkululeko is embarking on an initial research project to further understand the barriers to learning that youth face in Grahamstown, South Africa. These findings will assist the organization as we begin to develop our core vision of supporting youth in their educational and personal development through formational years of grade 8 through matriculation.

The end product of this research project will be in the form of a mixed media presentation to be shared in the United States and South Africa to build partnerships, create transformative programming sensitive to local needs, and provide inspiration for future collaborations and donor investments. After all, who better to discuss the myriad of challenges and opportunities that exist in Grahamstown schools than the principals, teachers, parents, students and community members who work at, attend, and support these schools.
