The winners for the best song category of the awareNet theme song contest during the Peace Day Celebration won a professional music video for their song.

Roderich Zipp, one of the judges during the competition and a professional HipHop artist himself offered to volunteer his time and skills for this project.

In this project we describe how we worked/work on this task: creating our own music video.

1. What images do you have in your head for the video?

Terri Penney about the first brainstorming session:

"Today at 2pm, we met with the Mary Waters HS song winners of  the Peace Day celebration to discuss their own Music Video ideas. Roderick Zip (free willingly, no charge) offered to do the Music video in cooperation with us. There were 5 scholars  eagerly awaiting  us in the  the computer lab when we arrived. Anna introduced Roderick to the pupils and told them how he would help and make the music Video with them. Eyes lit up and they got very excited about the whole music video idea.

Roderick then took to the floor. He told the learners what he expected from them and he gave them some assignments to do. Assignments as follows:

  • Take your own verse from the lyrics and see a image in it.
  • If you have any ideas for anyone else's verses bring it forward.
  • Bring forward on paper your own ideas for a music video.
  • Also look for clips or pictures of any music video that you think would be suited for the music video as examples.
Everyone then gave their ideas of what they thought would be suitable for the music video. Wonderful ideas came up"

2. Discussion about Peace

We had a lot of long sessions in which we purely discussed what peace actually means to everyone. They were very inspiring.

Some of us wrote down their opinions in a forum discussion. Perhaps you also want to give us your opinion? We are looking forward to hear from you!

4. A preliminary version of the video clip

Today, everyone who was there at the awareNet session at Mary Waters HS, was able to watch the first version of the music video which Roderich managed to cut very nicely. - Thank you, Rod!

Who was there? Of course Thami, Chris and Thezz. They were very excited and loved the video. They spontanously all wrote blogs about it. Here, you can find what they wrote:

5. The Result

Have a look at the result. This is an amazing outcome for seven amateur rappers and singers. We are very proud and hope to be able to bring it to the public, soon! The music CD is almost finished, and perhaps some TV channel will be interested....
