Youth Day

South Day in South Africa commemorates the Soweto Uprising in the country. The day is celebrated on June 16 every year. The day is celebrated in order to recognize the role of youth in the liberation of South Africa

The grounds of the movement lay in a 1974 official order which made Afrikaans compulsory in schools. The order stated that Afrikaans be used in conjunction with English for teaching in schools. Certain subjects like social studies, mathematics and algebra were required to be taught in Afrikaans while others like home science and general science were required to be taught in English. The use of local languages was prohibited was these subjects citing a provision in constitution which laid down Afrikaans and English as the official languages of the country

We are celebrating youth day what it means to me as young person?

It means to me that we are celebrating the freedom of youth. To be free to anything, schools and freedom of choice and everything. To be free from being abused by the Boers. We are celebrating for the people who fought for this day to happen. The people who fought for our country to be free when you are a youth.

We say thank you for fighting for this day to happen. Youth was straggling for this day to celebrated.

Youth Day

We are celebrating youth day what it means to me as a young person?

Youth day means a lot to me because there were children who fought for our freedom like Hector Peterson. In 1976 16 June riot between schools teachers who fosted them to speak Afrikaans which they don’t know .The kids were beaten to death some of them were shot dead. There was only one boy called Hector who was lost in 1976 till now.He was no where to be found and i think to my self that he was also killed and buried somewhere else or he is kept in a cell right now.

There is a move called Sarahfina who was the best in the whole school. She made a dance club at school and their choreographer was from America called Nadia and she was the best choreographer and she made them them to fill proud of what they are doing. So that movie tells the story of what happen on 1976.Today we have free education free books and everything.Know we no longer speaking Afrikaans by for’s in schools.

Youth Day

The youth day means to me a freedom day to black people. And when Hector Peterson came back to his home .And it means to me the day that black people were fight with whites for their land. And it also means to me the day hecter Pieterson get shooted by white’s .When he get shooted he was going to buy food to the shop and the white,s follow him when get out of his yard and the whites shoot him.

And the youth means a lot of things to me like our Grandmother,s and our Grandfather,s were poor in money but they have alot of animals and food like veg and fruit .But the white,s said to the young lady i don’t know her name but they said to her go to your people and said their ancestors said they must kill their animals and burn their forest.

Youth Day

To understand the significance and impact of the 16 June uprising, you have to place it within the socio-political context of the times. The apartheid regime had passed the Bantu Education Act in 1953 which had purposefully placed the development and edification of non-white children on a downward trajectory by limiting funding and subject matter. Concerned about the drop in the use of Afrikaans among black youths, the government passed the Afrikaans Medium Decree of 1974, which imposed Afrikaans as a medium of instruction in schools. Given the strong links to apartheid Afrikaans had, this was seen by the black youth as a further means of oppression.

Them as the youth of townships urbanised rapidly. Although there had been youth protests before 16 June, they had been uncoordinated and fairly easy to subdue.

For me youth day is the celebration of the youth that sucrifised their lives for us the people of South Africa.During the day we also honor the people that gave up their lives for South Africa to become a great place and an equal place for all.It is because of them that South Africa is a free country that every one is allowed to vote, the is no more discrimination between black and white people. In 1976 June 16 in Soweto many black South Africans lost their lives and one them was Hoctor Pieterson a young girl.

Youth Day

We are celebrating youth day what it means to me?

We are celebrating youth day on 16 June each and every year. When this day come through the youth make some lovely celebrations. We change all the bad things that we’ve done past and do the right things only.

When youth is celebrating we all do the same, but this day is only for the youth not anyone else. This day means a lot to me, because we all enjoy ourselves as we want. These days’ youth does not have respect because of their home situations. We all know about youth day it is our day that we’ve celebrating.

youth day is about giving back to the children even if you had a child heshe is gone now and youth day brings back those good, bonding days you had together.to me youth day is about celebrating your childness and enjoying but not by drinking alcohol.when you are celebrating youth day,you must spend it with your families.

youth day has been important to black people because in the olden days white people have to us black people because we knew that they wanted to rule black and they have hurt many black people like Hector Peterson because of wanting their freedoms back.

YOUTH DAY CELEBRATION

YOUTH DAY CELEBRATION

YOUTH DAY IS DONE ON THE 16TH OF JUNE IN MEMORY OF THOSE WHO DIED IN 1976 ON THE 16.

THE UPRISING WAS DONE BY SCHOOL PUPILS OF ONE OF THE SCHOOLS IN SOWETO. BECAUSE THEY WANTED TO LEARN IN THEIR OWN LANGUAGES. THEY WERE ACTUALLY AGAINST BEING TAUGHT IN AFRIKAANS.

THE UPRISING WAS LED BY A VERY POWERFUL SPEAKER AND WAS A STUDENT AT THE SCHOOL AND HIS NAME WAS TSIETSI MASHININI. THEY PLANNED THE UPRISING THE DAY BEFORE WHICH WAS THE 15TH, THEY GATHERED IN THEIR COMMUNITY AND DRAWED POSTERS TO ILLUSTRATE THE MATTER.

IN THE MORNING, ON THE 16TH OF JUNE. THAT IS WHEN EVERYTHING STARTED. THE SCHOOL KIDS WERE UPRISING, POLICE VANS THREW TEAR GASES BUT NOTHING SEEMED TO STOP. THEN THE FIRST SHOT WAS SERVED STRAIGHT TO HECTOR PETERSON WHO WAS ALSO A PUPIL HE WAS IN A CROWD OF OTHER SCHOOL KIDS. HIS SISTER ANTOINITEE NOTICED THAT IT WAS HIS BROTHER. A BOY CALLED MBUYISA MAKHUBU PICKED HIM UP AND THEY RAN TO THE CLINIC WITH HIS SISTER BESIDES THEM.

NOW YOUTH DAY IS CELEBRATED ON THE 16TH OF JUNE. IN HONOUR AND IN MEMORY OF THOSE WHO DIED DURING THOSE DAYS.
