awareNet Youth Fun Run

The inner spirit of running is also different from that of most other sports. It can be competitive or it can be non competitive as you chose to make it.Running may well turn out to be one of the most significant experiences of you're life.Yet it doesn't always seem fun when you first try it.You're muscles may be soft, you're joints may be stiff and you're heart and lungs aren't use to working work hard.

As a result you'll feel slow and awkward when you run and will ache a bit afterwards.
But even if you're severely out of condition it only means it will take a bit longer to get back into shape once you've done the proper training and it feels like you are fitter and stronger you could put your fitness to test and participate in the awareNet Youth Fun Run!

The Route will be a Circular route:

Running out of Ntsikas Main gate then turn left to the stop street once you get to the stop street you turn right into Sani Street  run straight up Sani Street then you turn right again into Xhora street Ben Mahlasela Secondary School  will be on your left side when you turn into Xhora street follow that road staying on the right side of the road so that the traffic can see you. There are like little traffic knobs in the road which should be kept in mind once people have run over it to avoid someone falling over it.Just before reaching a gravel road to the end of Xhora Street runners will then turn right again into Dwara Road following Dwara Road until they pass a grave yard on your left hand side you then run into Mngcunube Road running a little up that road then turn left again to where in Ntsika is!

4. The Rules of the awareNet Fun RuN

  • The race will start at 12pm being started with a starters whistle. The race will only start later if theres any delay what so ever reason

  • The Exact route will be followed passing all the marshals on the road.Marshall's are their to ensure no short cuts get taken or the wrong turn offs.

  • Runners/Walkers should run/walk towards the traffic and not with the traffic to avoid accidents.
  • Line Up Properly

Nothing is more annoying to a runner at the start of a race than having to weave around slower runners after the whistle goes  off. Faster runners should line up at the front of the starting line, slower runners and walkers at the back. Some races have corrals based on estimated pace or post pace signs. If not, ask runners nearby their anticipated pace, and if it’s faster than yours, move further back. Most races use timing chips, so the time it takes you to reach the starting line won't count in your final net time.
  • Don't Jingle

Don't carry loose change or a set of keys in your pocket. Although it may not bother you, the constant jingling can be really annoying to those who are running near you.

Don't Take Up the Whole Road

If you're running with a group, try not to run more than two abreast, so others can pass you.

    Show Appreciation to Volunteers

Say "Thank You!" to race volunteers who hand you water or put your medal around your neck. They're volunteering  their time and the race would not be successful without them.

    Use Caution When Wearing Headphones

Yes, most races allow runners to listen to music (as long as they're not competing for a prize), and a lot of runners can't run without their music. But, for your and other runners' safety, you should make sure you can still hear what happening around you. Keep the volume low or run with one earbud out so you can hear instructions from race officials and warnings (i.e., "on your left") from other runners during the race.

    Thank Supporters, Too

Acknowledge race spectators who cheer for you as you pass them. If you're too tired to say "thanks," show them a smile, wave, or give them a thumbs up. It will make them feel good and encourage them to keep rooting for others.

9. To read more about the Health and fitness project Forums

The running Chat will give learners the opportunity to discuss all things involved in the Running project. The discussions will be about different activities on the running project. From running methods, running training and feelings towards running. How also to prepare for your first race!

Training and preparation is over. Now it's nearly race time. Before the race, look up averages for 5K finishing times. Figure out where you fall and aim to line up where you think you would fit. Usually 5Ks are small and they don't really start in waves, but you don't want to start at the front of the pack if you really belong in the middle. You don't want to feel discouraged with all the faster runners passing you. On the other hand, don't put yourself in the back if you are faster. Fighting to make your way to the front can be tiring.

About fifteen minutes before the start, warm up. Run an easy quarter mile, stretch, hydrate. You want to be ready to run at your racing pace right at the start. As you line up, breathe. Relax. The fun part starts soon.

Once the race starts, find a competitor. Silently pick a person that seems to be running your pace. Now stick to them and make sure they don't get too far away. If they wind up being to slow, pass them and move on to the next. Too fast? Let up and find someone closer to your pace. Chances are, having this person next to or slightly in front of you will motivate you to run a little bit faster and a little bit harder. I cut nearly two minutes off my best time during a race because of this. Focus on your breathing and your pace and run. It'll be over before you know it.  Remember to push for that last sprint at the end!
